Approach
Imagine Tomorrow Classes
Introduce Kids to Technology the RIGHT Way...
The curriculum is built on a nationally-recognized teaching and learning Approach developed by founder and former school-teacher, Judy Patterson. The Approach begins with a positive attitude towards learning. Patterson, with a career that spans over 30 years in education, developed the Imagine Tomorrow Approach to help children exceed expectations, and reach their full potential. Patterson believes that every aspect of the program must be infused with the Imagine TomorrowApproach so that children are constantly met with encouragement and success. Patterson proudly states, "It's so simple, yet it's so powerful." We build confidence and leadership in our students by focusing on their success.
In every class you will always hear our students saying, "I can do ANYTHING if I put my mind to it" - and they can! Adults are always amazed to see a 3 year old talking about downloading files or a 4 year old who can email a digital picture to help solve a mission. But Patterson is not surprised, she explains that using the Imagine TomorrowApproach, and introducing children to technology in a fun, meaningful, and age appropriate way, allows the children to not only learn about sophisticated computer concepts and really understand them.
The Imagine TomorrowApproach is a unique recipe that leads to success in every child. Everything that is developed and delivered has consistent elements: children are treated with respect, expected to deliver to high expectations, and opportunities are constantly created to lead a child to success, then celebrate the satisfaction of achievement. "We teach children what it feels like to be successful, a feeling that they love to get, again and again. We have always said, people sign up for computer classes, but our families stay with our program for years because of the feeling their children get inside when they experience Imagine Tomorrow."
What Skills Will My Child Build?
Imagine Tomorrow Classes
Thinking & Problem-Solving Skills
Children think and problem-solve each class in order to complete the computer detective mission. Children are prompted to think through a series of listening comprehension questions that tie in the concepts they are learning and applying in the lesson that day.
Teamwork & Social Skills
Teamwork and social skills are so important to start developing at a young ages. After children receive their own computer detective badge with their name on it, they feel like a team of detectives. Each child is heard, and gets to express their ideas during the team-building introduction to the lesson. The children feel like they work cooperatively as a team to accomplish their mission of the day, yet individually they move ahead at own pace on computer.
Computer Skills
Although computer knowledge may be the most obvious skill, there is a big difference in Imagine Tomorrow® versus other computer programs. Imagine Tomorrow® is the only software and curriculum in the world that is exclusively designed to teach particularly young children everything from basic mouse, keyboard, and navigational skills to more advanced mobile concepts, such as networks, satellites, cell phones, hotspot's, wireless, email, and the Internet. All of the most sophisticated concepts are introduced in a fun and age-appropriate way that the children can understand. Computers are always integrated as a tool, not taught in isolation or by using any off-the-shelf software. The result for children is a genuine understanding and appreciation of technology - how and why it will be an important tool in their future.
Academic Skills
Imagine Tomorrow® has received national recognition, in particular, for how the curriculum and software integrate early literacy skills in such a unique and creative approach. All 4 aspects of literacy - early reading and writing, communication and listening skills - are threaded throughout the computer detective missions, each class. Also, preschool and kindergarten enrichment concepts such as colors, letters, sight words, days of the week, shapes, and spatial skills, are integrated in the story line of each lesson. Imagine Tomorrow® brings typical preschool and kindergarten curriculum to the 21st century, in a fun and safe learning environment.
Self Confidence
Children build self-confidence throughout the entire class, as they complete a series of activities to accomplish the mission of the lesson. At end of each class, they receive a virtual gold medal, trophy or certificate, and they are rewarded with a star on their computer detective badges. Throughout the class, the Imagine Tomorrow® slogan is reinforced: "I can do anything...if I put my mind to it!" A feeling of success carries over to all aspects in life.
IT's curriculum and software aligns to the National Head Start Standards
Standards for Technology Integration
1. Technology should Not be Taught in Isolation
IT believes in building the necessary computer skills, such as the keyboard and mouse, as a foundation for teaching children to use the computer as a creative learning tool. Fundamental technology skills are not taught in isolation, but rather as integrated and meaningful part of an actual mission.
2. Introduce Sophisticated Technology in a Child Friendly Context
IT believes strongly in introducing children to the sophisticated concepts of today's digital and mobile technology in a context they can understand and enjoy. Every Learning Adventure ties in a technology theme and allows the children to experience how technology is used in everyday life.
3. Technology Should Address Different Learning Styles and Ability Levels
IT knows how to harness the power of today's technology to adapt to a child's individual ability level and learning style. Embedded in each activity within the custom software is the unique capability to have the software auto-adjust the level according to both academic and technology proficiency-keeping every child moving ahead at his or her own pace.
4. Technology is a Powerful Learning Tool
Use technology as the tool to get children excited about learning many different things. Our curriculum and software are designed to build language development, vocabulary, earl reading and writing skills, listening skills, and comprehension. Children learn how to apply the powerful uses of communications technology by learning to weave together exciting technology concepts with essential early literacy concepts.
